OUR NURSERY
Introduction
Gillies are small crabs children catch on the quay in Wells – they are the fond memories of children and a focal point they can look back on for happy memories.
Little Gillies is dedicated to providing a safe, happy, caring, secure and stimulating environment for children. This will enable them to develop their capabilities as successful learners, confident individuals and become responsible and effective contributors to society as they grow.
Little Gillies employs a team of highly qualified and experienced staff and overseen by an on- site manager and independent group of trustees, comprising of parents and professionals.
We aim to provide a curriculum for children through play experiences. We encourage and support children in becoming independent, confident, and co-operative with positive attitudes and respect for others. We provide activities taking into account the child’s stage of development, based on their individual needs, and curiosity.
Research has shown that children learn in many ways and that no one method is suited for all. At Little Gillies we have a ‘child centred’ approach, based on learning through play, allowing children to work in a way to complement their learning style. Play is vital for children to learn, grow, gain confidence and most of all have fun!

Outside space
We have a spacious outside area that can be accessed freely from each room. The children can decide where they wish to play all year round.
We have a garden area that we are now beginning to grow our own veg and herbs. The children will be helping in doing this and trying some of the produce. This will also include our lovely new mud kitchen where the children can explore using natural resources in their play
We are currently now establishing our nature area. Lots of plans for it so watch this space.
